Text Box: Mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086, Lavenham is regarded as the jewel in the architectural crown of Suffolk. Many of the superb timber-framed buildings were built between 1400 and 1500 and the village remains today very much as it would have been in those times. Owing it's wealth to the rise of the wool and cloth industry, Lavenham's rapid growth made it, in 1524, England's 14th wealthiest town, remarkably surpassing both Lincoln and York. Among its finest buildings the Guildhall, Little Hall and the magnificent church of St Peter and St Paul are just three which should be explored further.
Lavenham provides the ideal base from which to explore the many charming surrounding villages, Constable Country and the beautiful Suffolk Heritage Coastline, along which the towns of Aldeburgh, Snape, Orford & Southwold, are worthy of particular mention.
